Due to fall in temperature, frost has started on the potato crop. Farmers are being harmed by this. The changing weather causes maximum damage to the potato crop, while gram, mustard, arhar, and green vegetables are being damaged. In such a situation, the agricultural scientist says that farmers should do all possible irrigation to save the crop from frost.
Agricultural scientist Dr. SR Singh said that due to frost on the potato crop in winter, the crop gets frost blight. In this, the leaves of potato start turning yellow and start rotting, and then the plant rots. It is believed that when the temperature of the atmosphere is less than four, there is a possibility of frost.
This happens from December to January. There is a possibility of frost even when the wind is not blowing or the sky is clear. In such a situation frost accumulates on the leaves. Due to this, the veins of the leaves burst.
Irrigate at an interval of 10-15 days
President of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Senior Agricultural Scientist Dr. AK Singh said that every possible attention should be paid to irrigation to protect potatoes from frostbite and blight. Farmers should maintain moisture in the fields to protect the plants from frost. Apart from this, after irrigation, make thatch or poly house over the plants.
Potato crop should be irrigated at an interval of about 10 to 15 days. Apart from this, traditional and chemical methods can also be used to save plants from frost. For this, cover the plants in the nursery with a plastic sheet at night. By doing this, the temperature inside the plastic increases by 2 to 3 degree Celsius. Keep in mind that the southern and eastern side of the plants should be open.
